Corrupted church; Vatican needs a facelift

The Catholic Church doesn’t seem to have any reason to start grubbing over birth control after they cannot get their own affairs straight.

In a recent article by Reuters, information has been slowly coming to the surface about the Vatican’s string of corruption.

According to Reuters, some are claiming the current situations at the Vatican could be called a “sinister power struggle at a medieval court.”

One of the largest issues headlining the current scandals include the transferring of an archbishop after he called out the corruption in the church. The other issue taking front stage is the leaks centering around the Vatican bank including claims of laundering, freemasons, mafisi and the death of chairman, Roberto Calvi.

The pressure is now on Pope Benedict to clean up the church. However, sources by Reuters claims, that the pope, at age 84, is showing signs of his age and is mostly a “yes man” with no diplomatic experience or linguistic skills and that he is protected from bad news.

“It’s so complicated and the pope is so helpless,” the monsignor said.

This aspect of the pope not even being involved in the government issues worries me. For a time where a lot of government issues are arising such as the current issue of birth control here in the United States, I’m wondering where the church stands. It’s like if President Obama was being guarded from all the bad news and wasn’t competent enough to actually make decisions regarding the government.

After the ongoing allegations against multiple church officials of sexual harassment, it does not leave much faith in the Vatican. I was raised Catholic and have since turned away from the religion, one reason being that they are too involved in government.

As a nation, we have a separation of church and state and that needs to stay that way. That point becomes even more crucial when the Vatican does not even have their own government stable.

I’m thinking that the Vatican needs some serious revamping and that probably will not occur until a new pope becomes head of the church. Clearly, things have fallen apart.

I just wish that the Vatican would stay out of issues until they get home base cleaned up. You cannot make a good decision when you have that high of a level of corruption in your own organization.

It will be interesting when it comes time to usher in the new pope after Pope Benedict. I will hope that the next pope will have a better grasp of the issues and the power to reorganize, revamp, and restore faith in the Vatican and what they serve to do. -cc
