Hawks set record in classroom

The 367 students who represent the Hawks on various playing fields across all 18 Division I teams here at the University of Hartford set a record this past fall semester for cumulative GPA with a 3.18.

For the past 12 semesters the Hawks have soared in the classroom averaging at least a 3.0 GPA cumulatively, while a school record 17 student athletes earned 4.0 GPA’s.

The women’s golf team had the highest GPA amongst all the teams, with a 3.52.

Junior golfer Sarah Sideranko attributed the success to being attentive to academics and openly communicating with professors.

She also attributed her and her teammates’ academic success to playing a sport.

“It taught me how to balance school and golf so I didn’t fall behind, I think it says something about our discipline and that school is our first priority and how well we balance our time.”

On the men’s side, baseball led all the male athletic teams with a cumulative GPA of  3.30.

“Everyone is dedicated to academics, we  are told to do our best both on and off the field,” said captain Simon Kudernatsch. “Communication with the professors is really key too, letting them know and aware of what we have going on is important.”

Both the men’s baseball team and women’s golf team now await their spring schedules.
