Anti-bullying conference brought to the University

Bullying is an issue affecting everywhere today and recently on campus, a conference was held to solve issues regarding how to deal with and how to prevent bullying.

The first New England Anti-Bullying Conference was held on Dec. 2 by the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions’ Institute for Translational Research along with the Hartford Public Schools.

The conference builds on the Connecticut Public Act 11-232, which aids to strengthen bullying laws and also serves as a venue to gather knowledgeable scholars and practitioners on the topic.

Besides for raising awareness and providing information about bullying, the conference also focused on evidence-based strategies and solutions for preventing bullying and building safe, caring school communities. Educators, social psychologists, social workers and others who worked with youth gathered to benefit from the conference.

Some presenters that were involved were Richard Cardillo, the Educational Director of the NSCC, Dr. Rita Johnson from Cheyney University, and Stan Davis of www.stopbullyingnow.com.

Along with our conference here at the University, similar conferences are being held at DePaul University in Illinois and Rutgers in New Jersey in the winter and spring of 2012.
