‘Great Gatsby’ remake could be DiCaprio’s finest role

One of the most anticipated films of 2012 is the classic American story “The Great Gatsby.”

Directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel is no stranger to the big screen.

Being made several times over again with many different adaptations, fans will have to wait almost a full year for this new film as it is set for release Christmas 2012.

What makes the story fresh again is not the director’s choice to release the film in 3D, which is already set, but the actors cast for the roles.

Arguably one of the greatest young actors of our generation, it seems DiCaprio can slip into a role without much effort as his resume boasts big roles for both Clint Eastwood and Christopher Nolan.

DiCaprio is taking on the role of Jay Gatsby, the melancholy and mysterious young millionaire who is in love with Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan). Nick Carraway (Maguire), the narrator of the novel itself, become neighbors and friends with Gatsby and proves to be the link between Gatsby’s and his long lost love, Daisy.

Luhrmann, who directed films such as “Moulin Rouge,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Strictly Ballroom,” has the credentials to tackle a story such as Fitzgerald’s tragedy.

Filming in Luhrmann’s native Australia, “The Great Gatsby” is projected to make the Australian economy $120 million.

Colorful singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson is taking a new direction with her latest release, “Human Again,” which explores a dark period for the 31-year-old.

Set for release on Jan. 24, Michaelson’s fourth album chronicles a change in the songwriting and composition of her signature style.

“The album is called ‘Human Again’ because it’s taken me a very long time to be happy. The music on this album might surprise some people. I was really singing out, physically; I was writing about a really dark time in my life,” Micahelson said to Billboard.com.

With her last release coming in 2009 with “Everybody,” Micahelson’s direction has surely changed, but not all for the worst.

Critics can be quick to point out a change in an artist that they have certain expectations for, however, it seems Michaelson is curving the change with quality music.

The first single release off of the new album, “Ghosts,” proves that Michaelson has matured musically and taken a new angle in her song writing.

Michaelson has also sold out her annual “Holiday Hop” at the Musical Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, NY.

Packing a new kind of punch, Michaelson’s latest release will highlight her experiences of the last few years and showcase her new sense of direction in her musical career.

After their band’s hiatus since the end of their ‘Stadium Arcadium’ tour in 2007, die hard fans of The Red Hot Chili Peppers no longer have to wait to hear new work from their long time favorite band.

Although the band is not in its original form with the addition of guitarist Josh Klinghoffer, the band has not lost their ability to produce unique music that is always well received from their fans. Sticking with their sounds of funk and alternative rock, their newest album ‘I’m With You’ was released in August 2011.

The first two singles off of the album ‘The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie’ and ‘Monarchy of Roses’ were immediate successes on a mainstream level. With the album’s immediate success, it isn’t a wonder why the album is nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.

The ‘I’m With You’ tour has been in a run of shows throughout Europe and the U.K. and the highly anticipated U.S. tour will come in the New Year. Recently the band announced U.S. dates with kicking off a show on Jan. 20, 2012 at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.

As of now RHCP is planning on making stops in Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahama, Arkansas and then making their way back to the U.K. in June 2012.

‘I’m With You’ marks the tenth album for the group. They have built an incredible fan base since their emergence on the music scene since 1984. Like their other works, the Red Hot Chili Peppers never disappointed their fans and the passion for their music.
