The Student Government Association [SGA] is having its upcoming elections next week.
Executive Vice President Max Accardo explains that students should be involved in voting, “people running as candidates all have different concerns of the changes they want to occur on campus.
It’s important for students to know what these issues are, as whoever is elected will work towards making the change that they want to have happen.”
Students will be able to find out about candidates on election day, as there will be posters up explaining each candidate’s mission statement.
“It’s difficult to say who candidates are at this point, as there is a lot of speculation. We will notify students on hawk talk through an email when the elections will be taking place, as well as who will be running when it gets closer to election time,” says Accardo.
Students interested in running for office on campus still have time to register, but the SGA is taking a new route towards elections, as students can also run for a Student Senator position.
Typically the Student Senate positions are offered in the fall, but the SGA is offering them in the spring and fall this year.
“Sometimes students who don’t get elected for SGA offices want to run again.
We are having the Student Senate positions up for voting early so that students who don’t get elected, can run again in the fall to have a second chance,” says Accardo.
Registration to participate in the elections ends Friday, April 8 at the SGA office at 1:30 p.m. people interested should register as soon as possible.
The voting takes place on Monday, April 11, Tuesday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 13.
