Program aims to build leadership skills

The Leadership Quest program is being offered to all students Feb. 20. Students can attend a free one-day conference event focusing on improving leadership skills and time management.

“The event is focused on leadership and getting more educated on how to be a better leader; but there are numerous speakers coming that day that will be talking about different tools and techniques people can use to become better leaders,” explains Felecia Bumpus, Director of Student Activities and Greek Life.

“We’d like to get more students to sign up, and to get preregistered for the event if possible, so far we have 100 students attending, and getting more students to attend is our goal,” says Bumpus.

There will be a welcoming address during the event by Vice President of Student Affairs Lee Peters, as well as three educational sessions by faculty and student speakers, and a closing address by Amelia Barbagallo from the Barnum Financial Group.

“Each student that attends will receive a certificate of completion of Leadership Quest, which is something really beneficial, as attending this event looks impressive on a resume,” said Bumpus.

The event itself has been going on annually for the past six years, and it has been growing, as more and more speakers come each year, and the event itself can do more than teach students about leadership, it can improve their chances at securing a job after graduation.

“The topics that are covered in the events are diverse based on each speaker, and by giving students different speakers, they can take what they learn from each speaker and how they apply it to their job or lives,” Bumpus said.

By attending the event students gain a chance to fine tune their leadership knowledge, and gain insight from the various speakers ranging from faculty, students, and even recruiters that will be speaking during the event.
