Hartford fell behind 1-0 in the first period, and they were unable to derail the scoring momentum of their opponents. The Hawks were in trouble, having accumulated a two-point deficit by the start of the second period. But the aggressive offensive effort of Rory Nunamacher, who scored a goal assisted by Michael Cudmore, were able to put the Hawks onto the scoreboard and back into the game.
The opportunity for a win was within the reach of the Hawks. Fairfield scored only five minutes into the third quarter, but Hartford’s Michael Cudmore quickly redeemed the Hawks with a goal. The teams continued to banter back and forth, each team scoring four goals in the third period. But the Hawks were still trailing by one point.
Fairfield’s offense scored five goals within the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter. But the Hawks were not discouraged, as Aiden Genik, Carter Bender and Justin Bearse rallied back with four goals to remain in the game. Despite their efforts, the Hawks were unable to catch up and ultimately fell to Fairfield 12-9.
Hartford will return to action on Saturday, April 17, at home against the University of Vermont.
