Wyman Elected ’10-’11 SGA President

Following a three-day-long voting process all around campus, the votes have been counted and Matt Wyman was elected as the Student Government Association’s President for the next academic year.

Wyman, who is currently the Academic Vice President, has many plans in store for the future of the university. He plans on working to improve textbook prices as well as looking at possibilities for outdoor basketball courts.

As for the trial library program that has been a big initiative of the current executive board, Wyman plans on moving forward with the project and finding funds to keep it moving in the right direction.

“The library is one of the biggest concerns that we should address,” said Wyman of his plans. His opponent Kayla Cloutier said, “Matt Wyman is very motivated and qualified. I think he’ll do a great job leading the student body.”

Max Accardo beat out incumbent Darren Deoraj for the Executive Vice Presidency. One of Max Accardo’s ideas brought forth was to “strengthen relationships with clubs and Student Government,” he said.

Accardo said he believes that there wasn’t enough communication between the two this year and that is something he is willing to work on. Maria Arroyo won the spot of Academic Vice President over Matt Wolmer. As the Academic Vice President-elect, Arroyo is planning on helping to build a stronger relationship between professors and students.

Jessica Powers, Ben Accardo and Zachary Dryden all ran in uncontested races for their positions. Powers will be Finance Vice President, Ben Accardo will be Student Affairs Vice President and Dryden will be the Vice President of Public Relations.

Regarding the election, current Public Relations VP, Matt Cooke said, “Elections turned out really well, and we had a lot of student turn out. It was a great turnout between GSU, Commons and Hawk’s Nest, a lot of people went out to get their voice heard and they did. And next year we now have a very capable E-board.”
The students that have been elected will be holding office for the entirety of the 2010-2011 academic year.

In each of their respective positions this group seems to have many initiatives planned out which include lowering textbook prices, keeping up with the extended library hours and improving the campus overall.
