Franze Awarded AE Rookie of the Week

Only one game into his collegiate career, Jared Franze is already making an impact on the University of Hartford lacrosse program. The America East conference announced Monday that Franze was selected as the America East Rookie of the Week, the first weekly honors of the season.

Franze, a freshman midfielder from Glenville, N.Y., scored a team-high four goals in the Hawks’ season-opening 20-10 loss to No. 17 UMass. Three of Franze’s goals were scored with a man-up advantage, including his first-career tally in the first quarter, Hartford’s first score of the game and season.

As a senior at Niskayuna High School Franze scored 78 goals, a school record, and helped lead the Silver Warriors to the New York State Championship game. Franze was also selected to the Inside Lacrosse All-America team in 2009.

The Hawks will continue their non-conference schedule on Saturday at home against Delaware. Opening faceoff at Al-Marzook Field is set for 1 p.m.
