Best Picture Goes To: “Up”

The first 20 minutes of “Up” made me cry. The rest of the movie made me laugh and had me emotional and rooting for the characters. But I don’t think that it’s enough to have it win “Best Picture.” Carl Frederickson meets Ellie as a child, and they share the same desire for adventure. Together, they grow up, get married and grow old together. Then Ellie dies. I did not know that it was possible for a Disney movie to make me cry, but, apparently, it is. After that moment, I was pretty sure I wouldn’t like the rest of the movie. Thankfully, the storyline began to pick up, and Carl meets Russell. They end up going on the craziest adventure I have ever seen. It’s the type of adventure you always wish you could have when you’re a child. And they get to live it. It’s awesome. Pixar movies are always well-done. The cinematography and the detail in their characters are amazing, and the storyline was sweet. I think it’s a wonderful animated piece, but I don’t know that it was enough to stand up against some of its competitors for “Best Picture.” While it’s a story that can appeal to a slew of ages, there were some better pictures put out this year.
