Best Picture Goes To: “The Blind Side”

“The Blind Side,” starring Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw and Quinton Aaron chronicles the life of professional football Michael Oher (Aaron). Oher is the product of a broken home and is essentially living on the streets. This movie looks at many different social stigmas such as race and poverty, things most people don’t want to address. “The Blind Side” is a strong and powerful movie that shows how familial relations are much deeper than blood or skin color. It is the Cinderella story of an individual over coming adversity to achieve success. The acting was superb and I really liked the story that was told, especially that it was a true story. Oher was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the last National Football League draft. Though this was a really strong movie and audiences loved it, I don’t think it’s Academy Award Best Picture material. It isn’t the type of movie that I associate with Best Picture. Usually the winner of Best Picture has some kind of ground-breaking storyline and acting. This was a good film and very enjoyable to watch but I don’t think it’ll win Best Picture this weekend.
