Best Actor Goes To:

This year’s field in the best acting category is extremely tight and quite intriguing. In order to win the award, your performance has to be career defining. Without a doubt, the best performance of the year came from Jeremy Renner in the movie that should win Best Picture, “Hurt Locker.” The clear favorite is Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart.” The Academy loves to honor the babbling drunk character. That is not to take anything away from Bridges. He portrayed the fictional rock star perfectly. Another trend in the Oscars is to honor Hollywood veterans. To this I make the case forMorgan Freeman and his role as Nelson Mandella in “Invictus.” Although his performance was not as strong as Bridges or Renners, he is now a three time nominee and has never taken home the award.

Freeman won an Oscar in 2005/6 for Million Dollar Baby… granted, this was for Supporting, but he’s still won an Oscar, unlike the other 4 in the category. Go Jeremy Renner.
