Although We Are Scientists have recently signed with Virgin Records I thought I’d shed a little light on a band I see making noise in the near future.
With the release of their third full-length album on the horizon along with the second season of their MTV U.K. miniseries, “Steve Wants His Money,” We Are Scientists have a big year ahead of them.
Composed of members Keith Murray, Chris Cain and Andy Burrows, We Are Scientists formed in early 2000 in California, however quickly relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2001. As a self-sustaining full-time band, the trio recorded their own EPs and albums between L.A. and New York City. It wasn’t until 2005 that the band hit a minimal amount of mainstream success with the release of their second album “With Love and Squalor.”
The trio’s raw indie rock sound and scratchy guitar riffs make for their catchy signature sound. What I like most about the band’s style is their original songs and obscure lyrics. We Are Scientists’ sound can be classified as a more rock oriented Weezer.
Before Andy Samberg and The Lonely Island hit stardom with Saturday Night Live, the comedy trio actually directed and shot the Scientists’ music video for “Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt.”
With help from their friends and their determination to make a name for themselves for over a decade, We Are Scientists are finally getting the recognition they deserve.
The band has just recently come off of their January “Big F***in’ Deal Tour” which consisted of three shows in D.C., Philadelphia and Hoboken.
During the upcoming week WAS are filming a music video for their first single “Rules Don’t Stop” off of the new album. According to the band’s website, the new album is “Written, recorded, wrapped & mastered, with mustard.”
