Halloween Program

Alex Katz, another one of the coordinators explained, "This is a program where children from The Village, the Magnet School, and I think the Interval House will have the opportunity to come to University of Hartford and participate in trick-or-treating and other fun activities for a few hours.,Hartford children will be coming to campus to Trick or Treat in Regents Park and Hawk Hall. According to Aja Wilson, one of the coordinators for the event, about 75 to 100 children will be attending.

Alex Katz, another one of the coordinators explained, "This is a program where children from The Village, the Magnet School, and I think the Interval House will have the opportunity to come to University of Hartford and participate in trick-or-treating and other fun activities for a few hours."

"Trick-o'-Treat: RPR Style" will be held in Konover from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 24, with trick-or-treating in Regents Park and Hawk Hall before fun events begin.

According to Wilson, "It's an opportunity for local youth to experience a college atmosphere while enjoying Halloween-related activities with University students. They partake in trick-or-treating, face painting, pumpkin painting and much more."

According to Katz, the children will decorate their bags in Konover, along with other activities, and then go trick or treating before returning to Konover to continue the event.

This program has been done before by other Resident Assistants (RAs) of Regents Park and Park River. The creation of "Trick-o'-Treat: RPR Style" "was a thought that was conjured up in response to a want for more involvement from University students toward local youth," explained Wilson.

Last year, Hawk Hall and Regents Park/Park River RAs held separate Halloween events for children.

The Halloween program has been an RPR tradition. This is the second year of Hawk Hall's Program and the first time the two have come together, according to Katz.

Hawk Hall RA Ashley Katon-Donegal came up with the idea for her staff. "She and her residents wanted to do something for those children, and it was a great success," explained Katz.

There are several different ways students can sign up to participate. One way is to be one of the rooms where the children come to trick or treat.

"Other students can participate by showing up to Konover on the day of the program to assist in making sure the youth have a great time during their activities," said Wilson.

Wilson reminds students that there are no guidelines for participating: "Just be courteous and mindful that it's a program targeted for young children and have fun!"

To get involved, students living in Regents Park and Hawk Hall should see their RAs and let them know they are interested in the event.

Wilson invites all University students to participate, saying, "This is a great way to connect with them and to have fun while at it. We would love for University students to get involved!"

Katz agreed, saying, "It's going to be a lot of fun, and it's a great way to give back to the Hartford community. Last year, the Hawk Hall program was a tremendous success, and by collaborating with the RPR staff, I am sure that this year's will be even better!"
